DR RETHA SWART

Dr Retha Swart is a Specialist Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic surgeon at Pasteur Eye Hospital in Bloemfontein.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2004. She cultivated a keen interest in Ophthalmology from the onset of her academic career. Following her internship at Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein she furthered her aspirations in Ophthalmology at the Ophthalmology Dept. in Kimberley where she served as Medical Officer and obtained her Diploma in Ophthalmology from the College of Medicine during her community service year.

Dr Swart’s inception into Ophthalmology was in 2007 at the University of the Free State where she undertook her specialist training and was awarded her MMed Degree in Ophthalmology in 2011. During this time, Dr Swart focused her attention on a keen interest in Vitreo-retinal and Cataract surgery.

After qualifying, Dr Swart served as a Head of Department of  Ophthalmology at Boitumelo Hospital in Kroonstad for two years, during which time she started  part -time consulting  in private practice at Pasteur Eye Hospital in Bloemfontein in 2011.

In 2012, Dr Swart started practicing Ophthalmology full time in her own practice from where she is still currently consulting together with Dr Michael Carter.  Her special interests but not limited to, lie in cataracts and vitreoretinal surgery.

In 2009 she received the Medical Physics Floating Trophy which is awarded to the best MMedSc student in Medical Physics.  Dr Swart is a Golden Key Society member and also received an award for Excellence in Healthcare from the HPCSA.

Dr Swart understands that vision is an irreplaceable gift and believes in clinical excellence in the care of patients and their eyes.  She prides herself in offering a personalized service and invites you to contact the practice to assist you with your eye needs.

Her Practice and the Pasteur Eye Hospital Theatre, are situated on the same premises.
